Speaker of the House

Guests:   On this edition of the State Dollar, State Auditor Glen Gainer and his guest, Richard Thompson of Wayne County.

Summary:   Joining Auditor Gainer is the Speaker of the House, Richard Thompson of Wayne County. Delegate Thompson was first elected to the House in 1980, but did not return until his re-election in 2000. He became speaker of the house in 2006 and continues in that position entering the 2009 session.

Speaker Thompson’s considerable public service includes serving as a delegate, and a past assistant prosecuting attorney for Wayne County, and as former chairman of the Workers Compensation Appeal Board. Auditor Gainer and Speaker Thompson discuss the issues and challenges facing the Legislature in the upcoming session.

In Part two of this program Lisa Comer and Todd Childers of the WVSAO review a publication created each year by the Auditor's office outlining the revenues and expenditures of the state. The publication is an easy read for any citizen, providing an accurate assessment of state government finance.
