Finance University 2009
In 1995 a group of financial experts formed the "JumpStart coalition". They
set out to assess the personal finance skills of high school students and
map out a plan that would return personal financial skills to the class
rooms of public schools. The JumpStart coalition found that students lacked
even the basics of personal finance, scoring less than 50% when tested.
Auditor Glen Gainer led the effort to create the WV chapter of JumpStart,
and in 2002 hosted the first Finance University for WV educators. Seven
years later, WV is one of only two states offering educators an intensive
week long training program with information they can implement in any grade
level.
