In the fall of 2001, state agencies, private businesses and educational organizations with an interest in personal finance came together to form the West Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy (West Virginia Jump$tart).

WV Jump$tart is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization formed under the umbrella of the national Jump$tart Coalition. The national organization offers public use of its extensive online clearinghouse which includes personal finance videos, websites, books and other materials. The national coalition also administers a biennial survey of the financial knowledge of high school seniors in the United States.

WV Jump$tart has focused its objective on offering West Virginia’s educators the most up-to-date financial literacy academy available. Finance University has been recognized as a “Best Practice” for teacher training programs by the U.S. Financial Literacy and Education Commission in their National Strategy for Financial Literacy (2006).

The Economic and Financial Education for Teachers will not only be useful for bringing financial literacy to your classroom, but you will find yourself a more savvy saver and investor at the program’s conclusion.
