Finance University was developed by the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office and partners of the West Virginia Jump$tart Coalition in 2003. Since that time, over 200 teachers from all corners of West Virginia have attended Finance University.
Finance University has since been recognized as a best practice for teacher training in the US Financial Literacy Education Commission’s National Strategy for Financial Literacy (2006) and many of the financial and investing experts that were part of the inaugural year continue to be participants.
This program allows for the state inclusion of personal finance subjects such as investor education into existing curriculum through a national program called the 21st Century Learning Skills Partnership.
Finance University also satisfies part of the Personal Finance Education Specialist Advanced Credential (24.4.9) as prescribed by the West Virginia Department of Education.
