In the fall of 2001, state agencies, private businesses and educational
organizations with an interest in personal finance came together to form the
West Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy (West
Virginia Jump$tart).
WV Jump$tart is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization formed under the
umbrella of the national Jump$tart Coalition. The national organization offers
public use of its extensive online clearinghouse which includes personal finance
videos, websites, books and other materials. The national coalition also
administers a biennial survey of the financial knowledge of high school seniors
in the United States.
WV Jump$tart has focused its objective on offering West Virginia’s educators the
most up-to-date financial literacy academy available. Finance University has
been recognized as a “Best Practice” for teacher training programs by the U.S.
Financial Literacy and Education Commission in their National Strategy for
Financial Literacy (2006).
The Economic and Financial Education for Teachers will not only be useful for
bringing financial literacy to your classroom, but you will find yourself a more
savvy saver and investor at the program’s conclusion.
