Chief Inspector

The State Auditor's Chief Inspector Division ensures that financial accountability is present at the local level of government by annually conducting and overseeing over 700 financial audits of counties, municipalities, boards of education and other miscellaneous local boards and authorities. Local governments which are under the auspices of the Chief Inspector Division are also eligible to participate in the Local Government Purchasing Card Program. The Chief Inspector Division may initiate appropriate investigative action when fraudulent or other illegal activity occurs at the local government level.

Accounting & Auditing Opportunities

The West Virginia State Auditor’s Office is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Auditing Scholars Program. The deadline is March 31, so please read on further and be a part of our team as an auditing intern.

The West Virginia State Auditor’s Office is actively recruiting college accounting graduates, or graduate students to work full-time in our Chief Inspector Division. If you’re interested in beginning or continuing a career in governmental accounting please contact the WVSAO.
